For too long Nigeria and other African nations have tried to deal with their high youth unemployment numbers by convincing their youth population to become entrepreneurship. The fact that the numbers of the unemployed keeps growing in real terms means that the policies may have failed.

In this extract from my PhD dissertation I adopted a qualitative approach to try and explain why this could be the case and proffered alternative approaches that can help solve this all-important question – the question of employment generation for those who seek productive engagement.

A World War By Another Means: COVID19

    Rated 0 out of 5
    10,000.00 Add to cart

Covid-19 has impacted the world like a World War would. The first world war saw about 40 million people dead. Half of them were civilians. In the Second World War, about 75 million people died. 20 million of them were military men and the rest were civilians who died as a result of mass bombings, famine and disease. The modern world swore off fighting such senseless wars and we have only seen pockets of wars around the world since then; many of them in Africa.

COVID-19 has already had the impact of a world war. Millions have died due to the disease already. But the metamorphosis of the disease tells us that a lot more could happen. Businesses have been negatively impacted and millions of them have collapsed around the world as a result of unprecedented lockdowns and a freezing up of global trade. The New Normal that has come with this novel disease, has rendered perhaps billions of people around the world jobless or potentially redundant as machines take over the functions of people. Millions of relationships have also buckled and collapsed in this season.

This book reminds us of the impact of the disease and why we must be very perceptive of what is still evolving.

    Change Is Going To Come

    Rated 0 out of 5
    10,000.00 Add to cart

This book contains most of my advices to government in recent times, which I am anxious should not be forgotten, even if not used. Even I don’t want to forget the ideas contained herein. I learnt a trick a long time ago, to always jot down brainwaves whenever I get them. This has led me to be able to write a number of books. I believe anyone can try this trick and succeed in putting so much of written matter over time. It works. If God permits, I hope to be able to compile another set of my thoughts into books.

I was told by a number of people to make my writing shorter, and books less bulky, because people just have so much to do with their times these days than to sit poring through some boring book or the other. This has made me to quickly batch up a series of thoughts and get them published.

As usual, I have written in simple language, and for those looking for graphs, I doubt if you’ll find any here. I recently came across an article titled “Syriza’s Cleaners Shows Why Economics Needs a New Broom”, written in the Guardian of UK by Heather Stewart, see http://www.theguardian.com/business/2015/feb/01/syriza-cleanerseconomics-needs-new-broom-greece. It is the story of the public sector cleaners that Greece’s Syriza party reemployed after being laid off due to austerity cutbacks. I read the story at a point where part of the bailout deal arranged for Greece by Germany and the rest, entailed these cleaners being sacked, again. I pondered over the rationale behind turning the streets of Greece into a pigsty, yet hoping the economy will pick up and compete with that of Germany.

But that wasn’t my chief concern. In that write-up, Stewart pointed to h incursion of cold-blooded graphical analysis into economics; and perhaps later, mathematics, physics and the laws of engineering were modified and applied in explaining human behavior; of course with disastrous effects, especially in financial markets. She explained that it wasn’t always so; that economics used to be an art, explained away in prose form, with a humane face. Until human beings were described as cold-calculating optimisers of returns. She averred that emotions should still play a great role in economic analysis. In other words, we need to bring economic analysis down, from the level of machines, to the level of human beings. Not everything can be explained away by cold-calculating science.

I hope this book, and others I have written, find their ways into such a genre whenever it is recognized; a genre that seeks to break down economic analysis in a way that people will understand.

I think I’m lucky to think, sometimes rapidly, and I write almost as fast as I think. So, this book may not follow any particular laid down structure, but is essentially me throwing out those ideas I have deeply thought about, the way one will haul a precious stone to the surface, from the bottom of the sea, lest the precious idea disappears and gets washed away forever.

I hope my readers enjoy this one, as many did the others before it.

    How Kings Speak

I sincerely believe the saying that the palace has ethics and royalty has protocols.

I have listened to Kings of different kingdoms, tribes and industries speak, as I listened I observed how they all seem to follow a particular pattern of speech delivery.

Let me tell you one: Kings speak with the knowing that they can’t be interrupted so they take their time building up their thoughts and words to paint the exact picture in their minds with full confidence.

Some people speak too fast because of the fear that they might be interrupted.

You will need to position yourself as a King that you are and speak purposefully with confidence.

Just try and listen to the Ooni of Ife and you will understand what I am trying to say. I spoke about this in great details in this book.

This is just one of the 31 time-proven ideas in this book “How Kings Speak’ that if implemented can transform how you speak everywhere and can compel people to want to listen to you again and again.

This book comes with 7 audio-clips on ‘How To Speak To Anyone Without Fear’. Once you purchase this book, you will get a link to this package.

    Congratulations!

The race for capital (the other out-of-box economic arguments) is my third book and an aggregation of some my most important economic and financial thoughts in recent times, as distilled from my weekly column and elsewhere. The book’s title derives from the biggest economic argument of the day – the problem of inequality – which has finally been noticed by important economists around the world but to which no solution has yet been found.

In this book, that argument is further advanced and an African perspective is added, because whenever important economic arguments such as this goes on, that most-vulnerable continent does not feature in the analysis. But the perspective of this book is not all about complaining about the state of Africa and its position development-wise, but also on solutions. Some germane solutions are hereby offered for African economies especially but every other economy around the world which seeks to reposition its people and make a dent in these hard-to-solve quagmires facing the world today. There are no simple solutions apparently.
